Bushfire CRC research into the performance of rainwater tanks in bushfires

Bushfire CRC’s research team exposed both Poly and Aquaplate steel tanks to leaf-litter based fires and structural fires (fully immersed in flame) for a period of 30 minutes.
They found that Aquaplate steel tanks performed the best under any fire conditions.
Aquaplate steel tanks were able to maintain their structural integrity after fire exposure, with few if any leaks.
Polythene tanks leaked, melted and deformed after fire exposure, and when fully immersed in flame split and collapsed.
